In her paintings, Sirje Papp captures the borderland between dream and reality with subtle sensitivity – the images seem to hover between impressions and sensations. The tonal sense of color creates the mood and atmosphere that defines all of her paintings, where elements such as nature, sky, water and sea are found. But it is still her fascination with humans that shapes the motifs that provide a wordless story. There is a stillness, a contemplation in her figures, as if they were caught in a frozen moment. Her work expresses a suspenseful mysticism and can be expressed as magical realism. Through her realistic, suggestive and poetic imagery, she wants to achieve a sense of presence and wonder in the viewer. Sirje's inspiration comes from classical art but also from contemporary photography and film.
