Framing

Mat mount

There are several options to choose from when mounting a print or artwork.

The most common option is to frame with a mat; a wider cardboard sheet that is mounted on top of the margin of the work.

Why should you have a mat mount?

The mat is partly like an extra frame for the work, it contributes to a more sophisticated expression, but the most important purpose is to create a gap between the work and the glass. With this gap, there is less risk of the work being affected by the glass, for example through moisture.

Mat mount with visible edge

Another option is to let the mat "frame" the paper, leaving the edge of the works sheet visible. This works best with compositions that do not have a defined "edge".

Box framing

Framing in a "box" is becoming increasingly popular. There are also different mounting options, with the most popular being to let the work "float" a bit from the background. Framing is done with a spacer strip that is mounted inside the glass, either in the same color as the frame or white, depending on the work. When framing a fine art photograph in a box, it is recommended that the sheet is not mounted floating.

Choosing a frame

When choosing a frame, it is important to identify which color and finish will best bring out the artwork. If you have bold colors and a dynamic image, a black frame can carry the work well. If the subject is in more muted colors or a paler color scheme, a black frame can act as a distraction from the subject.

Choose a color or shade that is present in the work and use that as a guideline when choosing a frame. A white frame is best when you want your work to be as weightless as possible with maximum focus on the subject.

Veneer vs. Hardwood

A veneer strip is made on a pine core with an outer surface that is treated for the desired effect (for example, to imitate the structure of oak, walnut, etc.).

Frame mouldings made of precious wood consist of 100% of the aforementioned wood species, and are available in the following variants: naturally untreated, oiled, black or white stained. The structure of the wood species gives the frame a unique character.

Art Glass

Non-reflective effect can only be achieved by manipulating light waves. The vertical, double-sided coating technology guarantees a uniform effect. Artglass is coated with metal oxide layers as thin as 1/500 of the diameter of a human hair. The coatings are applied with absolute precision to ensure that the glass is perfectly smooth, durable and easy to clean. It is currently the clearest glass on the market and also offers superior UV protection.
