About Emanuel Bernstone

Emanuel Bernstone was born in 1973 in Karlskrona and spent his childhood in his father's studio in the Stockholm archipelago. He now lives in Berlin, a city with which he has long felt a special bond that has strengthened his artistic journey. Bernstone's formal artistic education began at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, where he studied from 1997 to 2003 and then received his Masters in Fine Art at Meisterschüler.
His work are often atmospherically monochrome, with balanced tones of black, grey and white often present. His artwork is a perfect balance between abstract, figurative and architectural elements. With these he creates a mysterious existence and a captivating narrative. Bernstone strives to achieve a stillness in his works that leads the viewer to forgotten emotions that are given space to surface and be explored. In recent years, his artistry has become increasingly formally abstract, strongly influenced by the creative scene that is Berlin. Where the motifs at the beginning of his career were often characterized by quiet reflections of wading birds in water, they have continued their development into stripped-down interiors, where the stillness remains, as well as skillful color transitions. Nowadays, the motifs have been scaled down to total abstraction, where the original reflections and stillness become even more tangible as only vibrations in the abstract meet the viewer.
