Collection: JAN STENMARK

Jan Stenmark is a visual artist who works with collage. Many of his pictures consist of newspaper or book clippings, where the text below the box gives the picture a completely new, unexpected and often absurd meaning. Although Stenmark is often categorized as a cartoonist, he is not one in the conventional sense of the word, and does not pretend to be one either. He can perhaps rather be counted under the broader concept of a joke artist, even though the pictures are usually collages rather than drawings. He has created a completely different genre in literature with “en stenmarkare”, which means a collage from a magazine from the sixties combined with a humorous and profound text.
