Marcus Eek was born in Stockholm in 1968, lives and works in Berlin. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in 1997.

Selected exhibitions: Kuntskraftwerk in Leipzig, Helsinki Contemporary, Codex in Berlin, Artipelag Stockholm, Mikael Andersen Copenhagen. Lars Bohman Gallery, Charlotte Lund Gallery, Björkholmen Gallery, Örsta Gallery. Eek has also been awarded the Swedish Arts Council's Work Scholarship.

'Pictures say a lot even though they are silent. For me they are in a field between the eye and the mind. Like looking over the shoulder of someone who is dreaming. And just like in a dream where logic can be absent without it disturbing, I have worked with my latest pictures. The light, color and composition have not been subordinate to the subject but instead played a shared leading role.

Like Lego pieces, I have taken them apart and put them back together again. A color from a sky over a floor with an ocean and a shadow next to an enlarged brushstroke resembles the bark of a tree. A framework that holds together and at the bottom a belief that that field, between the eye and the mind, actually exists and my new pictures are like postcards from my latest trip. - Marcus Eek
