JAN STENMARK
'Single Ticket'
November 7 - December 1
Jan Stenmark is one of Sweden's most prominent satirists and visual artists, known for his distinctive use of collage. By cutting out images from newspapers from the 1940s to the 1960s, he creates incisive and humorous artworks that are enhanced with hand-drawn details and incisive commentary. For almost 40 years, he has established himself as a central figure on the Swedish art scene, producing works that often touch on deeper themes than may first seem obvious.
Stenmark's collages, which may seem simple at first glance, often carry hidden layers of meaning. His work evokes emotions that can be both mixed and contradictory. Although his images sometimes challenge societal norms and are not always politically correct, they often hit the mark in their satire. Taking part in Stenmark's art is like stepping into a liberating world where you feel part of a larger context and not alone in your thoughts and reflections.
